Returning with her first new music of 2022, Cathy Jain has a point to prove with ‘UFO’. The seventeen-year-old has quickly crafted a style that is all her own; subverting expectations and wandering from one side of the pop spectrum to the other within a single track. This tune is a colourful mixture of tones that take us on a tour through subtle funk and rock influences to the modern pop prowess of the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish. “You know when you’re with someone and you think they’re someone they’re not? And then, in the end, they betray you, and you realise they’re not going to be there for you,” she says of the track. “It’s made into this big, apocalyptic alien invasion story.
